Frequently asked questions
What does the School Bus CDL test cover?
The School Bus knowledge test covers 5 required topics, including Danger Zones and Use of Mirrors, Loading and Unloading, and Emergency Exit and Evacuation. These are the required knowledge areas under 49 CFR 383.123. Practicing by topic here lets you see exactly which areas you're weak on before test day.
How many practice questions does the School Bus section have?
This section has 20 original practice questions across 5 topics, each with its own written explanation and a citation to the actual regulation behind it. Your state's real test uses its own question count; Washington, for example, uses 20 questions for its School Bus test.
Are these the real School Bus CDL test questions?
No. These are original practice questions, not the actual School Bus exam questions used by any state. They're derived from the federal knowledge requirements in 49 CFR 383.123, never copied from a real test or a competitor's practice test, and each comes with its own written explanation.
Do I need the Passenger endorsement before the School Bus endorsement?
Yes. Under 49 CFR 383.123(a)(1), you must first qualify for the Passenger endorsement, passing its knowledge and skills test, before you can get the School Bus endorsement. School Bus then adds its own separate knowledge test on top of that, covering loading and unloading children, emergency evacuation, and railroad crossings.
